Antigua

A beach for every day of the year, with one left over, say Antiguans. You'll definitely find one you like, whether your taste runs to quiet coves, breezy windsurfing waters, or lively sports scenes.
Resorts on Antigua are your base for sailing, windsurfing, deep-sea fishing and diving. Most have tennis, too. Rex Halcyon Cove and Sandals Antigua Resort and Spa are located in northwestern Dickenson Bay, which offers the widest variety of sports and activities on the island. Golfers will enjoy Jolly Harbour Villas with its recently upgraded Karl Litton championship course.

Beaches

Antigua has a beach for everyone. Antiguans say that “Antigua has a beach for every day of the year, with one left over.” Whatever your taste in beaches is, you are guaranteed to find one in Antigua.

Climate

Antigua and Barbuda have a pleasant year-round climate. The average daily temperature drops a few degrees in winter (December to March) from the usual high of around 86°F (30°C). Antigua and Barbuda are fairly dry throughout most of the year except during the rainy season (mid-September and November) when daily showers can be expected. Hurricane season runs from June to September and visitors are advised to keep an eye on the weather forecast during this period.

What to Wear

Moderately casual clothing is acceptable during the day. Swimwear is not acceptable off of the beach/pool. “Smart casual” is usually the rule at night, with slacks for men, and dresses for women. Some fancier resorts or restaurants require jackets.

Currency and Credit Cards

Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC$), which is tied to the US Dollar. US currency can be used nearly everywhere. Major currencies and travellers cheques can be exchanged at the international banks in St John’s and at many hotels. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted.

Electricity

The island has both 100 Volts, and 220 Volts, depending on where you are. The majority of hotels have both. It's a good idea to bring your own adapter, although many of the hotels will rent them to you.

Marriage Requirements

  1. Valid Passports
  2. If either party has been previously married, then bring along the original divorce decree or, in the case of a widow or widower, the original marriage and death certificates.
  3. Two witnesses
  4. Twenty-four hour waiting period.
